De Minaur withdraws from Wimbledon quarter-final against Djokovic

LONDON: Australian tennis star Alex De Minaur has been forced to withdraw from his Wimbledon quarter-final clash against second seed Novak Djokovic on Wednesday due to a hip injury. This unexpected turn of events sends Djokovic into a record-equalling 13th semi-final at the prestigious grasscourt Grand Slam.
Ninth seed De Minaur sustained the injury during the closing stages of his 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 fourth-round victory over Frenchman Arthur Fils on Monday. The injury, described as a small tear in the fibre cartilage connecting to the adductor, has left De Minaur devastated.
“I’m devastated to pull out due to a hip injury, a little tear of the fibre cartilage that is at the end of or connects to the adductor,” De Minaur said. This setback comes after De Minaur’s remarkable victory over Djokovic at the United Cup team tournament earlier in the season.
De Minaur’s withdrawal marks a significant moment in this year’s Wimbledon, as Djokovic continues his pursuit of another Grand Slam title, now one step closer due to the Australian’s unfortunate injury.(Reuters)
