Moneer claims first group win in style at La Teste

DOHA: Wathnan Racing’s promising colt Moneer landed his first Group victory on Thursday with a commanding performance in the Group 3 (PA) Prix Dormane – Wathba Stud Farm at La Teste, France. The four-year-old, trained by Damien De Watrigant, made a powerful statement in just his third career start, winning the 1900m contest in impressive fashion.
Facing a strong field of six, including the well-fancied Maqbool, Moneer settled in second behind early leader Mohtaram. As the field turned for home, jockey Jean-Bernard Eyquem timed his move to perfection. Moneer surged to the front with a decisive burst, fending off a late challenge from Maqbool to win by a clear three lengths. Mukatel Al Shahania claimed third.
This victory marks Moneer’s second win in three starts and confirms the potential he has already begun to display. Bred by Mohammad al-Najafi, Moneer is out of the Group 1-winning mare Muneera, suggesting a bright future lies ahead for this talented colt.
