Qatar to take on Bahrain in semis of Olympic qualification tournament
Doha, Qatar: Qatar will take on Bahrain in the semifinals of the Asian Men's Handball Qualification Tournament for Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Thursday. Only the winners of the tournament, being held at Al Duhail Arena, is assured of a place in the Tokyo Games.
Qatar finished their group engagements with six points, from three wins over Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and India, to finish on top of Group A, while Bahrain finished second in Group B.
In the other semifinal, Group A runners up Saudi Arabia take on South Korea, who edged Bahrain to emerge as Group B winners.
The participating teams were divided into two groups Team Qatar were drawn in Group A alongside Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and India while the second group includes Bahrain, South Korea, Iran, and Kuwait.
While the champions will receive the ticket to the Tokyo Games, the runners up will have to compete in the playoffs next April.
It is the second time in a row that Qatar is hosting the Asian Men's Handball Qualification Tournament for the Olympic Games.
