Qatar set to face China in U-17 Asian Handball opener

AMMAN: Qatar will launch its campaign in the Asian Men’s U-17 Handball Championship tomorrow when it takes on China in Group B action in Amman, Jordan. The tournament, which begins today and runs until September 25, will also serve as a qualifier for the inaugural IHF Men’s U-17 World Championship in Morocco next month.
Qatar has been drawn in Group B alongside China and Saudi Arabia. Group A features Kuwait, Bahrain, and Hong Kong, while Group C includes hosts Jordan, Chinese Taipei, and India. Group D brings together South Korea, Iran, Maldives, and Syria.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the main round, where the eight qualifiers will be split into two groups of four. The leading two sides from each group will progress to the semi-finals.
Only the Asian champion and runner-up will secure spots at the World Championship in Morocco, scheduled for October 24 to November 1. Qatar will aim to begin its journey with a strong performance against China to boost its qualification hopes.
