Qatar beat Bulgaria to finish third in group

Doha: Qatar beat Bulgaria 24-12 in their last group game at the 24th ISF World Schools Handball Championships here at the Ali bin Hamad Al Attiyah Stadium.
Both the teams were alrwady out of contention, but the win helped the hosts finish third in Group A with two wins from four matches.
The nine-day championship, which will end tomorrow, is organised by Qatar School Sports Association (QSSA).
Austria and Poland are other teams in the group, with the former qualifying for the semifinals after beating Croatia 35-16 in the quarters.
They will take on Israel, who edged out defending champions Turkey 23-21 in a thrilling match at the Aspire Dome.
Turkey, who topped Group C, came into the tournament as favourites alongside former champion France. But they were outdone by some good play down the stretch as Israel, who finished second in Group D, held on for an impressive win.
In the other semis, European heavyweights Germany and Poland will vie for a place in the final.
In the girl’s section, Serbia defeated Turkey 39-26 while Czech Reopublic won 23-19 against Israel and Brazil edged Croatia 25-23.
The championships is being held at two other venues — Aspire Dome and Qatar Women’s Sports Committee Hall.
Over 20 countries are taking part in the competition including Austria, France, Turkey, Israel, Germany, Poland, Croatia, Brazil, Hungary, Slovenia, Denmark, Romania, Morocco, Georgia, Romania, Czech Republic, Greece, Belgium, Bulgaria and Serbia.
