Aspetar provides medical support to FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup

Doha: Aspetar, Qatar’s orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital, will provide medical support to the 11th FIG Artistic Gymnastics Individual Apparatus World Cup that is taking place from March 21 to 24 at Aspire Dome.

Aspetar will offer its services to 360 elite gymnasts representing 40 countries throughout the duration of the competition, utilising a multidisciplinary medical team from its National Sports Medicine Programme (NSMP). A team of 24 experts, including doctors, physiotherapists, massage therapists, nurses and supervisors will provide on-the-ground support for athletes in addition to pre-and-post medical care at the athletes’ accommodation.

The championship has been organised in Qatar in preparation for the 48th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, which is due to take place at Aspire Dome from October 25 to November 3, 2018, and at which Aspetar will also be a medical provider. After the World Cup competition this week, a FIG delegation will conduct an inspection of the Aspire Dome’s facilities to review operational and medical planning ahead of the 48th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.

Supporting such events cements Aspetar’s leading role in the treatment and prevention of local, regional and international athletes’ injuries across all sports. Aspetar’s experts have a wealth of experience in supporting athletes taking part in major tournaments in Qatar and abroad, including the 24th Men’s Handball World Championship in 2015, the 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships, and the 2016 UCI Road World Championships.

The hospital has also accompanied the Algerian national football team to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa and 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, in addition to Qatar’s Olympic delegation to the 2016 and 2012 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and London respectively.
