Qatar Football Association launch initiative to support Al Annabi
Doha: The Qatar Football Association (QFA) has launched an initiative to support Al Annabi in the 24th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup to be held in Doha from November 26 to December 8.
Eight teams including Qatar, UAE, Yemen, Iraq, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are participating in the tournament.
Qatar’s first national team (the Maroons) will begin their campaign with the tournament opening match against Iraq on Tuesday at the Khalifa International Stadium.
The initiative brings together many artists and Qatari football veterans as well as social media celebrities who were keen on inviting supporters and fans of the Qatari team to encourage and support the team to go on to title and lift the championship cup for the fourth time in Qatar’s footballing history.
Qatar are playing hosts to the prestigious the tournament for the fourth time, having hosted the same in 1992, 2004 and 2014.
The QFA initiative was launched immediately after the end of the match between Qatar and Afghanistan in the joint qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup and the 2023 Asian Cup.
The Qatari support campaign by QFA and its Marketing Committee was held through events on streets and in shopping malls across Doha as well as on roads leading to the Khalifa International Stadium, which will host Qatar’s matches during the tournament.
On Saturday, the Qatar national team players were hosted by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) ahead of the 24 Arabian Gulf Cup. The meeting was organised by the LOC to update the team on the tournament laws.
Meanwhile, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates arrived on Sunday.
Yemen and Iraq were the first teams to arrive for the 24th Arabian Gulf Cup.
Ready for the battle
Hosts and Asian Cup 2019 champions Qatar continued their preparations training under the watchful eyes of their coach Felix Sanchez at the Aspire Academy.
The tournament will kick-off on Tuesday with Qatar taking on Iraq at the Khalifa International Stadium while Yemen meet UAE at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.
Qatar are in Group A with UAE, Yemen and Iraq while Group B consists Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain. (QNA)
