Iraq to host next Arab Gulf Cup
DOHA: Iraq was unanimously selected to host the 25th Arab Gulf Cup at the General Assembly of Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF) here on Thursday.
The conference was chaired by AGCFF President Sheikh Hamad bin Al Thani in the presence of Vice-President Dr Jassim bin Mohammed Al Shukaili, Secretary General Jassim Al Rumaihi and representatives of the member associations.
“Iraq has been accepted in principle to host the next edition of the tournament,” said Al Rumaihi.
Iraq had last hosted the competition in 1979, and won their maiden title at home.
“Other member associations didn’t bid for the tournament as they wanted to support Iraq and give them the opportunity to host the prestigious event,” added Al Rumaihi.
AGCFF exuded confidence that Iraq can successfully host the tournament.
“I had attended the 2019 International Friendship Championship in March this year. I’m convinced that the country has the ability and capability to host a successful championship,” said the official.
