Schools Olympic Program gets underway

Doha: The 11th edition of the prestigious Schools Olympic Program (SOP) organised by the Qatar School Sports Federation (QSSF) got underway at the Qatar Sports Club on Sunday.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Qatar Olympic Committee Secretary General Jasim Rashid Al Boenin,  Director of QOC Sport Affairs Department Khaleel Ibrahim Al Jaber and Qatar School Sports Federation (QSSF) President Rabea Al Kaabi.

This year's edition brings together students from all across the country to compete in 11 sports disciplines – football, basketball, volleyball, handball, swimming, gymnastics, athletics, table tennis, fencing, tennis and shooting.

“We are celebrating the 11th edition of this aspiring programme, keeping big hope to achieve our great goals. This strategic project needs more effort and concentration in selecting talents," said Al Boenin.

An estimated 214 boys’ schools (including 119 government schools and 98 private schools) and 186 girls’ schools (105 government schools and 81 private schools) are participating in this edition.
