French-Qatari sports relationship runs deep, says French envoy

Doha: On the occasion of the France National Day here on Friday, the French ambassador HE Eric Chevallier praised Qatar’s collaborations with his country on various fields including sports.
“One cannot speak of the French-Qatari relationship, especially not me, without mentioning sports,” said Chevallier at a function to celebrate his country’s National Day.
Both the country’s relationship runs deep in sports and 2011 was a significant year when Qatar Sports Investments bought the Ligue 1 club Paris-Saint Germain.
The diplomat also heaped praise on Qatar for its 2022 FIFA World Cup vision.
“You’ll be the first Arab nation to host the event. Qatar can count on France’s support. I’m convinced the competition will be a huge success,” he said.
The event was attended by HE Minister of Justice Dr Hassan Lahdan Saqr Al Mohannadi, HE Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Chief of Protocol Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro and other dignitaries.
“Qatar and France work together on sports development. The Aspire Zone Foundation and the French National Institute of Sport expertise signed an important agreement committed to excellence illustrates this will,” added Chevallier, who also presented Paris’ candidacy for the 2024Olympic and Paralympic Games.
