Aspire Zone lines up more sports activities

Doha: Tuesday’s National Sport Day (NSD) 2018 celebration in Aspire Zone, the biggest of its kind in the country, brought together some of the Qatar’s most prominent local government and private organisations, attracted thousands of visitors and marked yet another success story, but Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) is getting ready to host more exciting events.

This year’s NSD 2018 featured several key sporting events, including the Fun Run, the Staff Walk and the Staff Volleyball tournament. The volleyball event was attended by the Minister of Sport and Culture, HE Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali, and the Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, HE Hassan Al Thawadi, along with senior members of AZF.

Youth teams impress

Football Performance and Science Activities experts set up football skills demonstrations at the Indoor Football Pitch. A series of entertaining multi-skill activities were organised for boys and girls as well as Teamwork Challenges’ that foster teamwork and cooperation.

The final matches and award ceremonies of the Aspire Football Tournament were also played on Aspire Zone’s outdoor pitches 2, 3 and 5 as part of the NSD 2018 celebrations, comprising separate competitions between youth teams in three age-groups (2006, 2007 and 2010 birth years) from Aspire and the Qatar Football Association’s registered teams.

Muaither SC won the 2006 age-group competitions, Al-Gharafa SC won the 2007 age-group competitions and the Aspire team won the 2010 competitions.

Aspire International Kite Festival

AZF will unveil the 2nd Aspire International Kite Festival, a three-day spectacle that is taking place at Aspire Park for a second year running from March 06-09. Thousands of visitors are expected to attend this year’s Aspire International Kite Festival.

Along with the Kite Festival, AZF, in collaboration with the Qatar Photographic Society, will launch a photography competition for amateur and professional photographers in Qatar. Entrants will compete for a chance to win valuable prizes and the honour of being crowned 2018 Aspire International Kite Festival Photography Competition winner.

Esrar Race 2018

Back by popular demand, the Esrar Race 2018, a 5km obstacle course that tests participants’ mental and physical strength, returns for the second year in Aspire Park from March 23-24, 2018 from 7:30–11:00 AM. The event is co-organised by AZF and the 'Diverse' sports events management company. It is sponsored by the Mövenpick Hotel Al Aziziyah Doha.

In addition to ‘open category’ for single male and female competitions, this year’s version will also include the ‘team relay’ category for friends and family members looking to support each other. Temba tournament

Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) will launch the second edition of the ‘Temba’ tournament on its five-a-side football pitches this March. A large number of teams made up of football enthusiasts will take part.

Further details about the competition will be unveiled at a later date on AZF’s social media channels or through the ‘Life in Aspire’ website and smartphone application.
