Voeller to remain Germany sporting director until 2026

Munich, Germany: Rudi Voeller, sporting director of the German national football team, has signed a contract extension until the 2026 World Cup.

Voeller, who won the World Cup with Germany as player in 1990 and finished runner-up as coach in 2002, became sporting director in February 2023.

The German FA hopes this extension will positively influence national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, with whom they also want a long-term deal.

Nagelsmann, Voeller’s pick for coach, took over in September 2023 after a rough start internationally, but recently had big wins in friendlies against France and the Netherlands.

Nagelsmann’s contract ends after the Euros at home this summer, but there are rumours in the German press that he might return to Bayern Munich.
