Vitinha and Ramos lead PSG to victory over Marseille

MARSEILLE: In a thrilling encounter at the Stade Velodrome, Vitinha and Goncalo Ramos emerged as the heroes for Paris St Germain (PSG), as they clinched a hard-fought 2-0 win over Marseille in Ligue 1 action on Sunday. Despite early setbacks and playing with 10 men for a significant portion of the match, PSG’s resilience and clinical finishing proved decisive, handing Marseille their first home defeat of the season.

The match began with PSG facing early jitters, struggling to break through Marseille’s sturdy defense. Kylian Mbappe, PSG’s leading goalscorer, was effectively neutralized until his substitution in the second half. However, it was Vitinha who broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute, showcasing his prowess by netting a well-worked goal after a clever one-two with Ousmane Dembele.

Marseille’s hopes of a comeback were dashed when Ramos sealed the victory for PSG in the 85th minute, capitalizing on a setup by Marco Asensio to silence the Stade Velodrome with a clinical finish. Despite Marseille’s relentless pressure, PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma stood tall, making ten crucial saves to ensure a clean sheet and secure all three points for his team.

With 62 points to their name and a comfortable 12-point cushion over second-placed Brest, PSG continues to march towards yet another league title under the astute guidance of their manager Luis Enrique.
