Van Nistelrooy’s Man United bid farewell with 3-0 win as Ipswich shock Spurs
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s interim spell as Manchester United manager concluded with a commanding 3-0 victory over Leicester on Sunday, extending his unbeaten run to four games since stepping in for the dismissed Erik ten Hag. Van Nistelrooy will hand over to incoming manager Ruben Amorim after the international break, leaving United in 13th place but just three points off fifth.
Bruno Fernandes marked his 250th United appearance by scoring his fourth goal in four games, slotting in after combining well with Amad Diallo. A glancing touch by Fernandes later forced an own goal from Leicester’s Victor Kristiansen, doubling United’s lead. Alejandro Garnacho, coming off the bench, capped the win with a superb finish into the top corner.
Meanwhile, Ipswich Town stunned Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-1 win, marking their first Premier League victory in 22 years. Sammie Szmodics opened the scoring with an overhead kick, and Liam Delap doubled Ipswich’s lead. Spurs managed a late reply through Rodrigo Bentancur’s header but couldn’t avoid their fifth defeat in 11 league matches, slipping to 10th.
Nottingham Forest’s three-game winning streak was halted in a 3-1 defeat to Newcastle, with goals from Alexander Isak, Joelinton, and Harvey Barnes pushing Newcastle to eighth.
Arsenal and Chelsea, both trailing leaders Liverpool by 10 points, square off later with Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard back in the starting lineup, hoping to revive their title aspirations.
