Szczesny reportedly headed for Saudi Arabia after leaving Juventus
Juventus has confirmed the departure of Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny after seven years with the club. The 34-year-old, who took over from legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon in 2017, has reportedly agreed to join a club in Saudi Arabia.
Juventus announced on Wednesday that the club and Szczesny mutually agreed to terminate his contract. Szczesny played 252 matches for the Turin giants, securing 103 clean sheets and contributing to three Serie A titles and three Italian Cup victories.
The Polish international joined Juventus from Arsenal after a two-year loan spell with Roma. Despite his achievements, Szczesny has fallen out of favor at Juventus, which has not won a league title in four years. The club has brought in Michele Di Gregorio from Monza as his replacement under new coach Thiago Motta.
“Tek (Szczesny) will always be remembered as a dedicated player and a man who wore our jersey with pride and professionalism,” Juventus said in their statement. “Thanks for everything Tek, and good luck for the future!”
