Spurs manager Postecoglou praises Solanke’s progress after Europa League win

LONDON: Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has lauded Dominic Solanke’s gradual rise to form after the striker played a key role in Spurs’ 3-0 Europa League win over Qarabag on Thursday. Solanke, who joined from Bournemouth in a deal worth up to £65 million ($87 million), scored one goal and assisted another, contributing to a convincing victory despite Spurs being reduced to 10 men.
Solanke’s 68th-minute strike was his second goal in as many games, following a goal in the league win over Brentford. His performance came after a slow start to the season, exacerbated by an ankle injury that sidelined him for two games shortly after his debut.
“He’s getting there,” Postecoglou said. “He didn’t do pre-season with us and missed two weeks after his first game, while the others were building up match fitness. Great for him to get another goal, but his all-round performance was really strong.”
The 27-year-old forward’s contribution was particularly significant given Spurs’ numerical disadvantage, with Postecoglou praising his work rate and ability to hold up play in challenging circumstances.
