Satriano Volley Stuns Real Madrid as Barcelona Extend Lead

MADRID: A first-half volley from Martin Satriano earned Getafe a shock 1-0 win at Real Madrid in LaLiga on Monday, a result that left Barcelona four points clear at the top of the standings.
Real dominated possession at the Santiago Bernabeu but failed to convert their superiority into goals. Getafe struck in the 39th minute when a half-cleared cross fell to Satriano on the edge of the box and the Uruguayan lashed a fierce volley into the top-left corner.
The defeat leaves Real second on 60 points, four behind leaders Barcelona on 64. Getafe moved up to 11th with 32 points.
With Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Eder Militao sidelined, coach Alvaro Arbeloa rotated heavily and handed 18-year-old Thiago Pitarch his first senior start.
Real created chances, with Vinicius Jr denied by goalkeeper David Soria in a one-on-one and Arda Guler thwarted by a fine one-handed save. However, they struggled to break down Getafe’s disciplined five-man defence after the break.
Frustration spilled over in stoppage time when substitute Franco Mastantuono was shown a straight red card for dissent, while Getafe’s Adrian Liso was also dismissed.
It was Real’s first home league defeat to Getafe in 18 years.
