Salah aims for a special farewell season at Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has revealed his determination to leave Liverpool on a high note, believing this will be his final season at the club. The 32-year-old forward, whose contract expires at the end of the campaign, has been instrumental in Liverpool’s resurgence, helping them to a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

“It’s my last year in the club, so you want to do something special for the city,” Salah told Sky Sports in an interview released on Friday. Reflecting on Liverpool’s long-awaited league triumph in 2020, he added, “We waited for that title for 30 years or so. To win it during the pandemic, we didn’t really have time to celebrate it in the right way. It’s not a nice thing to do, so hopefully, we can do it this year.”

Salah’s remarkable form this season has seen him score 17 goals and provide 13 assists in just 18 Premier League matches. However, despite speculation of a contract renewal, Salah confirmed after last weekend’s 5-0 victory over West Ham that a new deal is still “far away.”

Salah is not the only key Liverpool player nearing the end of his contract. Captain Virgil van Dijk and right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold are also in the final year of their deals and are now free to negotiate with foreign clubs.

Under Jurgen Klopp’s management, Salah and his teammates achieved a historic clean sweep of trophies, including the Champions League, Premier League, and domestic cups. However, Salah believes a second Premier League title is necessary to cement the legacy of this generation.

“My motivation this year was to win a trophy and be a big part of winning that trophy, especially the Premier League,” Salah emphasized. “I still believe the team needs a trophy. There is still half of the team left, like me, Trent, Virgil, Alisson, Robbo. It’s necessary for us to win another trophy before we all go.”
