QFA Refereeing Department holds development meeting with Olympic League Referees

DOHA: The Refereeing Department of the Qatar Football Association held a technical and development meeting with Olympic League referees last Sunday as part of a series of programs aimed at enhancing the technical and administrative efficiency of referees.

The meeting was supervised by Abdullah Al Balushi, Head of the Youth Categories Department, along with technical expert Selim Jedidi, and was attended by a strong presence of referees.

The session began with a set of administrative and technical instructions related to match preparation procedures and adherence to required standards before, during, and after matches. The referees demonstrated clear commitment and a solid understanding of these guidelines.

The meeting also included various tips, guidance, and technical aspects, along with an educational video presentation of several refereeing cases from the Olympic League and amateur league. These covered key topics such as:

  • Incidents inside the penalty area
  • Physical challenges and disciplinary sanctions
  • Tactical fouls
  • Handball situations
  • Referee positioning and movement on the field, especially anticipation and reading the game
  • Avoiding unnecessary interference in play and with players
  • Match management and body language
  • Use of video technology

The meeting witnessed strong interaction from the referees, who actively participated in discussing the cases, reflecting their eagerness to improve their performance and reach the highest levels.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Abdullah Al Balushi praised the referees’ engagement, affirming the continuation of such sessions to further develop referees and achieve the highest standards of officiating.
