QFA President elected to FIFA Council from Asia

Manama, Bahrain: QFA President His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani was elected as a member of the FIFA Council for the term 2023-2027, representing Asia, at the 33rd AFC Congress at the Gulf Convention Centre in Manama on Wednesday.

Sheikh Hamad won 40 votes, more than any other candidate, to confirm his place in the FIFA Council, the highest decision-making authority of world football’s governing body.

The other FIFA Council members who were elected from Asia are:
Kozo Tashima (Japan) – 39 votes
Datuk Haji Hamidin bin Haji Mohd Amin (Malaysia) – 30 votes
Mariano Araneta Jr. (Philippines) – 34 votes
Yasser Hassan Al-Misehal (Saudi Arabia) – 35 votes

In addition to the above members, Kanya Keomany of Laos was elected to the FIFA Council as a female AFC Executive Committee member.

The 33rd AFC Congress also saw the re-election of His Excellency Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa for the position of President of the AFC, having stood unopposed.
