Qatar all set to host final three matches of inaugural FIFA Intercontinental Cup
The organizing committee for the FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2024™ held a press conference announcing full readiness to host the final three matches of the international tournament. Tickets for these matches will go on sale starting Thursday, November 21, through FIFA’s official ticketing platform. Visa cardholders will have early access to ticket sales beginning on November 14, one week before the public sale.
Qatar will host the first edition of the tournament in its new format from December 11-18, where continental club champions will compete for three titles: the FIFA Derby of the Americas on December 11, the FIFA Challenger Cup Qatar 2024 on December 14, and the grand title, the FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2024™ on December 18. Qatar will host three matches, with two held at Stadium 974 and the final match at Lusail Stadium, featuring Real Madrid, the reigning UEFA Champions League holders. The FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2024™ final comes two years after the iconic Lusail Stadium, with a capacity of 88,600, hosted the historic FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ final.
At the press conference, Hassan Rabia Al-Kuwari, Executive Director of Commercial, Marketing, and Events for the organizing committee, emphasized the significance of hosting another global tournament in Qatar, following the success of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, which received worldwide acclaim as the best edition of the tournament in modern history.
Al-Kuwari said: “Once again, the world’s eyes turn to Qatar, reaffirming its status as a global sports capital with preparations complete to welcome some of the world’s top clubs and brightest football stars here in Qatar. Hosting the final at Lusail Stadium on December 18 is a fitting celebration marking the second anniversary of the best World Cup edition, which achieved unprecedented results on all levels and raised Qatar’s profile globally in sports.”
He added: “We welcome passionate fans from around the world to another prestigious tournament featuring three top-level matches at two World Cup stadiums that hosted remarkable competitions during Qatar 2022. This provides fans a unique opportunity to relive the festive atmosphere they enjoyed at the global football event two years ago. Fans will also experience Qatar’s authentic hospitality, with world-class infrastructure ensuring a smooth and memorable experience for all.”
Competing teams include Al Ahly SC, 2024 CAF Champions League winners, CF Pachuca from Mexico, the CONCACAF Champions Cup winner, the 2024 Copa Libertadores champion (to be determined at the end of this month), and Real Madrid, the UEFA Champions League titleholder. Al Ain FC, the AFC Champions League winner, and Auckland City FC, the OFC Champions League winner, were eliminated in previous knockout qualifying matches.
Both stadiums hosting the tournament are accessible, with a wide range of seating options available for fans with disabilities. Each individual can purchase up to six tickets. A ticket resale platform will be available later via FIFA’s ticketing platform. Only tickets purchased through FIFA’s official ticketing platform will be accepted.
