Ooredoo Stars League: Qatar SC, Al-Sadd record crucial wins

Qatar SC and Al-Sadd grabbed important victories in Matchweek 14 of the Ooredoo Stars League on Thursday.

Youssef Safri’s Qatar SC began the day’s action with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Al-Shamal. Ata Mohammed Jabr opened the scoring before Baghdad Bounedjah equalised in the 82nd minute. Al-Shamal, reduced to ten men after goalkeeper Babacar Seck’s red card, struggled defensively. In the 98th minute, Ahmed Abdelkader converted a penalty to seal the win. Qatar SC climbed to 14 points, while Al-Shamal remained at 19. The match saw intense exchanges, with Qatar SC capitalising on their numerical advantage and securing their second consecutive victory after previously defeating Al-Sadd.

The day’s second game saw Al-Sadd secure a 3-1 victory over Al-Arabi at Al-Thumama Stadium.

Ahmed Alaaeldin gave Al-Arabi an 18th-minute lead, but Al-Sadd responded in the second half. Rafa Mújica equalised with a header in the 54th minute before Akram Afif converted a penalty in the 75th. Mújica sealed the win with his second goal in the 88th minute.

Al-Arabi’s Abdou Diallo missed a key penalty in the 40th minute, saved by Meshaal Barsham. With this win, Al-Sadd reached 28 points, while Al-Arabi remained at 13.
