Nice shatter PSG’s unbeaten dream with stunning 3-1 win

PARIS: Paris St Germain’s dream of finishing the Ligue 1 season unbeaten came to a crashing halt on Friday night, as Nice produced a clinical display to hand the champions a shock 3-1 defeat at the Parc des Princes.

Despite already wrapping up the Ligue 1 title earlier this month, PSG were eager to make history by going through the campaign without a single loss. But their ambitions were dashed by a spirited Nice side, who boosted their own Champions League hopes with a memorable victory.

PSG dominated early proceedings, creating a flurry of chances, but it was Morgan Sanson who opened the scoring for the visitors in the 35th minute with a crisp finish from Badredine Bouanani’s clever pass. Fabian Ruiz responded quickly for the hosts with a superb half-volley just six minutes later.

Any momentum PSG hoped to carry into the second half was immediately cut short, as Sanson struck again just 22 seconds after the restart, volleying home from close range. Youssouf Ndayishimiye then extended Nice’s lead in the 70th minute with a powerful header from a free kick.

Despite enjoying 75% of possession and creating twice as many chances, PSG were undone by poor finishing and the heroics of Nice goalkeeper Marcin Bulka. With a Champions League semi-final first leg against Arsenal looming, Luis Enrique’s side will have little time to dwell on their first league loss of the season.
