Neuer extends Bayern contract until 2026, ends speculation over future

Bayern Munich have extended Manuel Neuer’s contract until the end of the 2025-26 season, the club announced on Monday, putting an end to speculation about the veteran goalkeeper’s future.

Neuer, 38, was set to become a free agent this summer, but Bayern sporting director Max Eberl hailed him as “the best goalkeeper of his generation and a Bayern icon.”

The extension means Neuer will remain with the Bundesliga champions for a 15th season, having joined from Schalke in 2011. During his time in Munich, he has won 11 Bundesliga titles and two Champions League trophies.

“I still have the hunger for success and want to keep playing as a Bayern player,” Neuer said in a club statement.

The former Germany captain recently returned from a rib injury sustained in a clash against Bayer Leverkusen in December, which kept him out for the rest of 2024.

Neuer, who retired from international football after Euro 2024, continues to face competition for his place, with Alexander Nübel, currently on loan at Stuttgart, seen as a long-term successor.

However, for now, Bayern remain committed to their long-time No. 1 as they push for further domestic and European success.
