Nagelsmann recalls Rudiger as Sane left out of Germany squad

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has recalled Antonio Rudiger but omitted Leroy Sane from his squad for September’s World Cup qualifiers.

Nagelsmann, whose side is missing Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, Tim Kleindienst and goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen through injury, named a 23-man group including three debutants: Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nnamdi Collins, Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen and Mainz midfielder Paul Nebel.

Rudiger returns after being suspended by Germany following his outburst in the Spanish Cup final in May. At the time, Nagelsmann warned: “He knows this can’t happen again, otherwise there will be very serious consequences.” Rudiger later apologised for his “wrong and excessive” behaviour.

Sane, capped 70 times since 2015, misses out on the first squad announced since his move from Bayern Munich to Galatasaray.

Germany face Slovakia in Bratislava on September 4 before hosting Northern Ireland in Cologne on September 7.
