Musiala stars with goal and three assists as Germany dominate Hungary
DUESSELDORF, Germany: Jamal Musiala was the star of the show as Germany began their Nations League campaign with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Hungary on Saturday. Musiala, who scored one goal and assisted three more, led a dominant German performance that demonstrated their intent to focus on the 2026 World Cup following a quarter-final finish at Euro 2024.
Germany’s squad has undergone significant changes, with the international retirements of 2014 World Cup winners Thomas Müller, Toni Kroos, and Manuel Neuer, as well as former captain Ilkay Gündogan. Despite these departures, Germany’s new-look team showed no signs of weakness.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Niclas Füllkrug tapped in a well-crafted assist from Musiala after a smooth passing combination. Germany continued to press, with Kai Havertz coming close to doubling the lead, hitting the crossbar and narrowly missing in stoppage time of the first half.
