Messi to Sit Out Inter Miami’s Next Two Matches Due to Ankle Injury

Inter Miami will be without Lionel Messi for their upcoming Major League Soccer fixtures, as confirmed by coach Gerardo Martino on Tuesday. The Argentine star sustained a right ankle injury during Argentina’s Copa America triumph, forcing him off the field in the 64th minute of a 1-0 victory over Colombia.
Messi, 37, will miss the home matches against Toronto FC on Wednesday and the Chicago Fire on Saturday. Martino expressed concern over the severity of the injury, stating, “There will be further testing to determine the severity of the situation. He has to have more tests and wait for the results.”
In an Instagram post following the match, Messi expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, saying, “I want is to thank everyone for the messages and greetings. I’m fine, thank God, and I hope I can soon be on the field again enjoying what I like to do most.”
Inter Miami, currently second in the MLS Eastern Conference with 47 points from 23 matches, is gearing up to defend their Leagues Cup title against rivals from both MLS and the Mexican league starting next week.
