Mbappe shines on Real Madrid debut as European champions secure sixth Super Cup
WARSAW,Poland: Kylian Mbappe made an immediate impact on his Real Madrid debut, scoring a brilliant goal to help the European champions secure a 2-0 victory over Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday. The French striker, who joined the Spanish giants from Paris Saint-Germain in June, marked his arrival with a clinical finish, doubling Real’s lead in the 68th minute.
Real Madrid took the lead through Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde, who netted from close range after 59 minutes. Nine minutes later, Mbappe, receiving a precise pass from Jude Bellingham, fired the ball into the top corner to seal the win.
This victory secured Real Madrid’s record sixth Super Cup title, surpassing the five titles held by Barcelona and AC Milan.
“It was a very difficult game,” Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said after the match. “The second half was much better, we had more space in front and we showed our qualities. In the first half, however, we struggled a lot. Atalanta played really well defensively, and we had difficulty in finding space.”
Mbappe could have opened his account earlier, but his first-time shot in the 15th minute was blocked by Atalanta’s resilient defense. Despite the early miss, the 25-year-old star showcased his talent and justified the hype surrounding his high-profile transfer to Madrid.
