Manchester United sign Patrick Dorgu from Lecce in £25 million deal

Manchester United have completed the signing of Danish defender Patrick Dorgu from Lecce for a reported initial fee of £25 million ($37 million). The 20-year-old left-back has impressed in Serie A over the past two seasons, scoring five goals in 53 league appearances and earning four caps for Denmark.
Dorgu becomes the first signing under new manager Ruben Amorim, addressing a lack of options on the left side of defense. The youngster expressed his excitement at joining the club, saying:
“I am incredibly proud to be able to call myself a Manchester United player; this is a very special day for my whole family. I cannot wait to work with Ruben Amorim; his vision for this team and the future of the club is incredibly exciting. There is a clear plan set out for my development, and I feel that Manchester United is the perfect place to fulfil my potential and complete my huge ambitions.”
United’s spending this summer has been restricted due to profit and sustainability regulations, but club technical director Jason Wilcox believes Dorgu is an ideal fit for Amorim’s tactical setup. Wilcox said:
“Patrick is a really exciting talent; his strong defensive and attacking attributes, adaptability and work-rate will make him a key part of Ruben Amorim’s squad. At the age of just 20, we know he will continue to develop under the guidance of our excellent coaching team.”
With the transfer window set to close on Monday, United are looking to offload players to balance their finances. Marcus Rashford is reportedly close to joining Aston Villa on loan, which would ease the club’s wage bill, while Alejandro Garnacho has been linked with Napoli, though a departure appears unlikely before the deadline.
