Manchester United secure signings of de Ligt and Mazraoui from Bayern
LONDON: Manchester United have bolstered their defense by signing Dutch centre-back Matthijs de Ligt and Moroccan full-back Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich. The Premier League club confirmed the signings on Tuesday, with De Ligt committing to a contract until June 2029, and Mazraoui until June 2028.
While the financial terms were not disclosed, British media suggest that the combined fee for the pair exceeds £50 million ($64.32 million). Both contracts include an option to extend for an additional year.
De Ligt and Mazraoui began their careers at Ajax Amsterdam, where they played under current United manager Erik ten Hag, who played a crucial role in their development. De Ligt, 25, has an impressive track record, having won the Eredivisie with Ajax in 2018-19, the Serie A title with Juventus in 2019-20, and the Bundesliga with Bayern in 2022-23.
“Erik ten Hag shaped the early stages of my career, so he knows how to get the best out of me, and I cannot wait to work with him again,” De Ligt stated.
