Manchester United eases pressure on Ten Hag with 3-0 win at Southampton

Manchester United secured a crucial 3-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday, giving under-fire manager Erik ten Hag some much-needed breathing space. Goals from Matthijs de Ligt, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho sealed the win, but United had to weather an early storm.

Southampton could have taken the lead when Cameron Archer missed a penalty at 0-0, with Andre Onana making a crucial save. Moments later, De Ligt’s header from a Bruno Fernandes corner broke the deadlock, his first goal for United. Rashford, who had not scored in six months, added a second just before halftime with a well-placed strike from outside the box.

Southampton’s situation worsened when captain Jack Stephens was sent off for a reckless challenge on Garnacho, who then capped the victory with a stoppage-time goal. The Saints remain winless in their return to the Premier League, while United’s second win of the season lifts them to eighth place.

The victory eases some pressure on Ten Hag, whose side had suffered back-to-back losses before the international break.
