Majority of Manchester United fans back new stadium over Old Trafford redevelopment
A recent survey reveals that 52% of Manchester United supporters favor building a new stadium rather than redeveloping Old Trafford, the iconic home of the club. The poll, involving 50,000 season ticket holders, club members, and executive members, found that 31% supported upgrading Old Trafford, while 17% remained undecided.
Manchester United’s board is exploring options for a possible multi-billion-pound stadium project in collaboration with the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force, which includes high-profile figures like former United defender Gary Neville and World Athletics president Sebastian Coe. The Task Force has reportedly focused discussions on constructing a new 100,000-seat stadium, echoing Manchester City’s 2003 move to the City of Manchester Stadium, while contrasting with rivals Liverpool’s redevelopment of Anfield.
A final decision is anticipated by mid-2025, with artist renderings of a potential Old Trafford redevelopment released in September providing a glimpse of what could be.
