Leipzig ends Leverkusen’s 35-game unbeaten run

LEVERKUSEN,Germany: Bayer Leverkusen’s remarkable 35-game unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga was brought to a stunning halt on Saturday as RB Leipzig staged a dramatic comeback to secure a 3-2 victory.

Leverkusen, the reigning champions, dominated the early proceedings at the BayArena, with Jeremie Frimpong breaking the deadlock in the 38th minute with a precise low strike. Alejandro Grimaldo doubled the advantage just before halftime, seemingly putting the hosts in control.

However, Leipzig responded immediately, with Kevin Kampl pulling one back in first-half stoppage time. The momentum shifted in the second half as Lois Openda delivered a match-winning performance. Openda equalized in the 57th minute before unleashing a thunderous long-range shot that left Leverkusen goalkeeper Matej Kovar helpless, sealing Leipzig’s remarkable comeback and ending Leverkusen’s impressive run.
