Leicester relegated as Alexander-Arnold edges Liverpool closer to Premier League title

Leicester City’s return to the Premier League ended in relegation on Sunday, as Liverpool moved to within one win of the title with a 1-0 victory at the King Power Stadium.
Trent Alexander-Arnold came off the bench to score the only goal in the 76th minute, handing Arne Slot’s side all three points and pushing them to the brink of a record-equalling 20th English top-flight crown.
Liverpool could be crowned champions as early as Wednesday if Arsenal lose at home to Crystal Palace. If not, the Reds can clinch the title when Tottenham visit Anfield next weekend.
Leicester’s fate was sealed by a ninth consecutive home defeat—an alarming run during which they have failed to score a single goal. The Foxes have now won just two of their 20 league matches since Ruud van Nistelrooy took over as coach.
“It’s such a mountain to climb to stay in the Premier League,” Van Nistelrooy admitted. “You see that among the promoted sides.”
Liverpool started brightly, with Mohamed Salah hitting both posts inside two minutes. Despite dominating possession, the visitors struggled to break Leicester down until Alexander-Arnold returned from a five-week ankle injury layoff and fired home from the edge of the box after a chaotic corner.
The England international, reportedly set to join Real Madrid when his contract expires, refused to comment on his future. “These days like today are always special… they’re moments that will be with me forever,” said Alexander-Arnold.
Leicester join Southampton in returning to the Championship, with Ipswich likely to follow.
