Kompany rages as Musiala suffers horror injury in Club World Cup exit

ATLANTA:Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany expressed his fury after star midfielder Jamal Musiala suffered a gruesome injury during the first half of their 2-0 Club World Cup quarter-final loss to Paris St Germain in Atlanta on Saturday.
The 22-year-old Germany international sustained the injury in first-half stoppage time after a collision in PSG’s penalty area. As Musiala challenged defender William Pacho for the ball, goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma unintentionally rolled over Musiala’s left ankle, twisting it severely and leaving him in visible agony.
“I’ve rarely been so angry at halftime,” Kompany said. “Not against my players, but because of the nature of what happened. Jamal lives for this game. He’s already fought back from setbacks — and now this.”
The distressing scene saw players from both teams form a protective circle as Bayern’s medical staff treated Musiala, who was eventually stretchered off. Donnarumma, clearly distraught, dropped to the ground in disbelief.
Bayern captain Manuel Neuer later criticised Donnarumma’s challenge as “risky,” adding that he spoke with the Italian keeper after the match. According to Bild, Musiala could be out for up to five months — a significant blow for Bayern and the player himself.
For Kompany, the final score was secondary. “The result is part of football. But what happened to Jamal — that’s what still boils my blood.”(Reuters)
