Juventus ease past Cagliari to reach Coppa Italia quarter-finals

TURIN, Italy: Holders Juventus secured their spot in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia with a commanding 4-0 victory over Cagliari in Turin on Tuesday. Goals from Dusan Vlahovic, Teun Koopmeiners, Francisco Conceicao, and Nicolas Gonzalez ensured a dominant performance for the most successful side in the competition’s history, with 15 trophies to their name.

Juventus, aiming to extend their record in the tournament, will now host Empoli in the next round. Meanwhile, Cagliari, currently battling relegation in Serie A, will shift their focus back to the league.

The match saw Vlahovic, who faced criticism following Juve’s 2-2 draw with Venezia on Saturday, redeem himself with a goal just before halftime. Koopmeiners doubled the lead early in the second half with a stunning free kick, and Conceicao added a third in the 80th minute. Gonzalez completed the rout in the 89th minute.

Despite a bright start from Cagliari, with Gianluca Lapadula testing Juve keeper Michele Di Gregorio in the opening minute, it was the hosts who dominated proceedings.
