Iwobi inspires Fulham to victory over Brighton with clinical display

LONDON: Alex Iwobi made the difference as Fulham capitalized on Brighton & Hove Albion’s defensive errors to secure a 3-1 victory in Thursday’s Premier League clash. The Nigerian forward was instrumental, scoring with Fulham’s only two shots on target.

The opening goal came in the fourth minute after a costly mistake from Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. Attempting to play out from the back, Verbruggen passed the ball straight to Iwobi, who calmly slotted it into the far corner of an open net.

“We know that Brighton like to play out from the back, so we came up with a structure and it obviously worked for the first goal,” Iwobi told Amazon Prime. “We take it, however it goes in—a goal is a goal.”

While Iwobi’s opener showcased Fulham’s pressing tactics, the goal sparked controversy. Brighton captain Lewis Dunk argued that a foul should have been called in the build-up.(Reuters)
