Guirassy’s late header seals 2-1 victory for Dortmund over St Pauli

DORTMUND, Germany: Borussia Dortmund secured a dramatic 2-1 win against St Pauli on Friday, thanks to Serhou Guirassy’s 83rd-minute header. The victory lifted Dortmund to fourth place in the Bundesliga, at least temporarily.
Guinea international Guirassy delivered the winning blow, nodding in a cross at the far post to earn Dortmund the crucial three points. The goal came just five minutes after St Pauli’s Eric Smith stunned the home crowd with a brilliant equaliser, threatening Dortmund’s perfect home record this season.
The win was especially important for Dortmund, who had suffered a 2-1 defeat to Union Berlin the previous week. The team remains undefeated at home, but they have struggled away, yet to secure an away victory or achieve consecutive wins this season.
Coach Nuri Sahin highlighted the resilience of his squad in a post-match press conference. “We were calm in the first half and we knew it would take some time to find the spaces,” Sahin said. “But when you don’t kill off the game by scoring a second goal, we conceded an incredible goal. However, the boys kept at it and scored again.”
The win comes at a crucial time as Dortmund prepare for a challenging Champions League clash against Real Madrid next week.
