Grealish left out of Man City squad for Club World Cup as future remains uncertain

Jack Grealish’s Manchester City future was thrown into further uncertainty after the England international was left out of Pep Guardiola’s 27-man squad for the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States.

Despite being able to name up to 35 players, Guardiola omitted Grealish and veteran defender Kyle Walker, raising questions about their roles at the club moving forward.

All four of City’s new signings this week – Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders and Marcus Bettinelli – were included, along with Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, who returns from a long-term injury.

Grealish, City’s £100 million record signing from Aston Villa in 2021, made just seven league starts in a disappointing 2024/25 campaign and did not feature in the FA Cup final loss to Crystal Palace.

With two years left on his £300,000-a-week contract, his high wages may complicate a summer exit. City face Wydad Casablanca in their opening match next Wednesday.
