FIFA confirms schedule for first two games of 2025 Intercontinental Cup
FIFA has confirmed the date and venue of the first two matches of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2025™, the second edition of the new annual international competition featuring the champions of the six confederations, all competing for the global crown.
As was the case with the inaugural tournament held at the end of 2024, the 2025 edition will follow a modified format that allows clubs in the opening stage to compete for the FIFA Africa-Asia-Oceania Cup on home soil. This gives those teams the chance to play a FIFA competition at their own stadium and in front of their supporters.
The hosting of the FIFA Africa-Asia-Oceania Cup will rotate annually between the Asian and African confederations, giving clubs the opportunity to stage international competitive matches and allowing more fans than ever before to watch their teams in a FIFA competition.
The knockout tie for the FIFA Africa-Asia-Oceania Cup (Match 1) will pit Pyramids FC, winners of the 2024-25 CAF Champions League, against Auckland City, winners of the 2025 OFC Champions League. The match will be played on Sunday, 14 September 2025, at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.
The winner will then face Al-Ahli Saudi, champions of the 2024-25 AFC Champions League, in Match 2, scheduled for 23 September 2025 at 9 p.m. local time in Jeddah. The winner of this encounter will lift the FIFA Africa-Asia-Oceania Cup and secure a spot in the next round.
The Africa-Asia-Oceania champion will advance to the next stage of the competition, beginning with the FIFA Americas Derby (Match 3) on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, between Mexico’s Cruz Azul, winners of the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup, and the 2025 Copa Libertadores champions, who will be decided on 29 November 2025.
On Saturday, 13 December 2025, the winners of Matches 2 and 3 will face off in Match 4 for the FIFA Challenge Cup and a place in the final.
The winner of Match 4 will then take on Paris Saint-Germain, champions of the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League, on Wednesday, 17 December 2025 in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2025™ final (Match 5).
The venues for Matches 3, 4, and 5 will be announced at a later date.
