Fernandes slams ‘Lazy’ display after United’s draw with Everton

LONDON: Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes didn’t hold back after his side’s 2-2 draw with Everton in a pre-season friendly in Atlanta, calling the team’s performance “lazy” and demanding more urgency and reinforcements.

Fernandes had opened the scoring before Iliman Ndiaye equalised for Everton. A second-half strike from Mason Mount briefly put United back in front, but a bizarre own goal from youngster Ayden Heaven in the 75th minute gifted Everton a draw.

Speaking to NBC Sports after the game, Fernandes voiced his frustration: “Our performance wasn’t the best and we were a little bit lazy today. We want to avoid that because with laziness you can pay at any moment.”

The result slightly soured United’s U.S. tour, which had seen promising wins over West Ham and Bournemouth. Fernandes emphasized the importance of continued development and called on the club to strengthen the squad further ahead of the new Premier League season.(Reuters)
