Euro 2024: Dramatic late equalizer keeps Serbian hopes alive

Serbia snatched a last-gasp equalizer through Luka Jovic to salvage a 1-1 draw against Slovenia in a tense Euro 2024 Group C clash.

Buoyed by their opening draw against Denmark, Slovenia threatened early with Adam Gnezda Cerin and Jan Mlakar testing Serbian goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic.

After struggling offensively initially, Serbia gradually grew into the game with Dusan Vlahovic and Aleksandar Mitrovic creating chances. Timi Max Elsnik rattled the post for Slovenia, while Jan Oblak denied Mitrovic twice in the first half.

The second half mirrored the first with Mitrovic again frustrated and Benjamin Sesko testing the Serbian keeper. Slovenia then capitalized on a counter-attack, Zan Karnicnik starting and finishing the move for a surprise lead.

Serbia went on to press desperately for an equalizer, with Mitrovic hitting the bar and Lazar Samardzic missing a sitter. Just as defeat loomed, substitute Jovic rose highest in stoppage time to head home a dramatic equalizer, keeping both sides in contention for the knockout stages.

Slovenia, with two points, sit second in the group. Serbia are a point behind in third. Slovenia face England next, while Serbia take on Denmark in their final group game.
