Doha Bank Stars League: Al-Rayyan see off Al-Wakrah

Al Rayyan defeated Al Wakrah 2–0 in their Week 8 encounter of the Doha Bank Stars League, held at Saoud bin Abdulrahman Stadium.

Rodrigo Moreno opened the scoring for Al Rayyan in the 36th minute, while Roger Guedes sealed the win with the second goal in the 81st minute.

The victory lifted Al Rayyan to 13 points, moving them up to fourth place, while Al Wakrah slipped to sixth with 11 points.

The match began cautiously, with both sides focusing on controlling midfield rather than committing to early attacks.

Al Wakrah made the first serious threat in the 22nd minute when Amin Zahzouh broke through on the left and sent in a cross that was cleared by the Al Rayyan defence.

The visitors came close again ten minutes later when Gerard Sancho dribbled past several defenders before unleashing a powerful shot that struck the post in the 32nd minute.

Al Rayyan relied on counterattacks, which paid off when Thiago da Silva advanced into the box and delivered a cross that Rodrigo Moreno turned into the net in the 36th minute.

Roger Guedes almost doubled the lead just before halftime, breaking into the area and firing a shot that was saved by Saoud Al Khater in the 41st minute.

Al Wakrah pressed for an equaliser in the second half, with Amin Zahzouh testing goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada with a fierce shot in the 62nd minute.

However, Al Rayyan extended their lead in the 81st minute when Moreno intercepted a misplaced pass from defender Adidouni and set up Guedes, who slotted home to make it 2–0.
