Diallo inspires Man United to 2-0 win over PAOK in Europa League

MANCHESTER: Manchester United secured their first Europa League victory of the season with a 2-0 win over PAOK at Old Trafford, thanks to two goals from Amad Diallo. Under interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, the Red Devils broke their winless streak in the competition, achieving what former manager Erik ten Hag couldn’t.

United, who had previously drawn their three Europa League games, opened the scoring five minutes after halftime. Bruno Fernandes delivered a pinpoint cross, which Amad expertly headed back across the goal into the bottom corner, putting United ahead.

Despite Manchester United’s lead, PAOK threatened with a few close chances. United goalkeeper Andre Onana kept the Greek side at bay, notably tipping over a powerful shot from Mady Camara in the first half. In the 64th minute, PAOK nearly equalized when Taril Tissoudali found space in the box but lacked the power to beat Onana from close range.

Amad sealed the win with his second goal, showcasing individual brilliance. He dispossessed Baba Rahman, fended off his challenge, and unleashed a curling shot from the edge of the area, which took a slight deflection on its way into the far corner.

The victory lifted United to 15th in the Europa League standings with six points from four games. “It’s been a long time since we won in Europe,” Amad told TNT Sports. “Today we showed why we are one of the best teams. It was important to win today.”(Reuters)
