De Rossi extends Roma tenure with long-term contract
AS Roma rewarded club legend Daniele De Rossi with a new contract, tying the Italian coach to the club until 2027.
The announcement on Tuesday confirms a three-year extension for the 40-year-old, who initially took over as interim manager following Jose Mourinho’s sacking in January. De Rossi’s impressive start, guiding Roma to the Europa League semi-finals, convinced the club to offer him a long-term deal.
While Roma ultimately finished a disappointing sixth in Serie A last season, De Rossi’s impact was undeniable. His success builds upon a limited managerial experience, following a short-lived stint with SPAL last year.
A World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, De Rossi is a cherished figure amongst Roma fans. He rose through the ranks as a local talent, becoming a star for the club alongside fellow icon Francesco Totti. His passionate playing style resonated deeply with the supporters.
Despite enjoying a decorated playing career, De Rossi’s trophy cabinet with Roma only holds two Coppa Italia titles and a Supercoppa Italiana. He ended his playing days with Boca Juniors in Argentina in 2020.
