De Bruyne ‘surprised’ by Manchester City’s contract decision

MANCHESTER: Kevin De Bruyne has revealed he was caught off guard by Manchester City’s decision not to offer him a contract extension, calling it a “business-wise” move by the club. The 33-year-old Belgian, whose current deal expires in June, confirmed earlier this month that he will depart the club after ten successful years.
Speaking after City’s 2-0 win over Everton, De Bruyne opened up about the emotional moment he learned of the club’s decision.
“It wasn’t nice. My family wasn’t home… it was a bit weird but it is what it is,” he said. “It was not really a long conversation… they just make decisions based on business. I have to accept the situation, even if I feel like I can still do a good job.”
De Bruyne leaves behind an extraordinary legacy at the Etihad, with 416 appearances, 107 goals, and 177 assists — 120 of them in the Premier League, ranking second only to Ryan Giggs. Despite fitness issues this season, he has still managed 23 league appearances.
His departure will mark the end of an era for Manchester City, as one of their greatest ever playmakers prepares for a new chapter.
