Daniel Levy steps down as Tottenham chairman after 24 years

Daniel Levy has stepped down as Tottenham Hotspur’s executive chairman, bringing an end to nearly 25 years in charge of the north London club.

Levy, 63, oversaw the construction of the £1.2 billion stadium and state-of-the-art training ground that transformed Tottenham into one of football’s commercial heavyweights. But despite his achievements off the pitch, he was a divisive figure among supporters, accused of prioritising profit over success.

The club’s struggles in recent years intensified criticism. Spurs endured their lowest league finish since 1977 last season, ending 17th before salvaging the campaign with Europa League glory. That trophy ended a 17-year drought but was not enough to save Ange Postecoglou, sacked after two seasons and replaced by Thomas Frank in Levy’s final major decision.

“I am incredibly proud of the work I have done together with the executive team and all our employees. We have built this club into a global heavyweight competing at the highest level,” Levy said in a statement.

Peter Charrington will assume the newly created role of Non-Executive Chairman, working alongside chief executive Vinai Venkatesham. “This is a new era of leadership for the club, on and off the pitch,” Charrington said.
