Carvalho’s 93rd-minute strike rescues Brentford against Chelsea

LONDON: Fabio Carvalho struck deep into stoppage time to earn Brentford a dramatic 2-2 draw against Chelsea in their Premier League clash on Saturday, denying the visitors a chance to go provisionally top of the table.
Kevin Schade opened the scoring in the 35th minute after racing onto a superb 40-metre lob from Jordan Henderson before his shot deflected off Tosin Adarabioyo and into the far corner. Chelsea, however, hit back in the second half as Cole Palmer, returning from a groin injury, equalised in the 61st minute. Moises Caicedo then put the Blues ahead with a precise strike in the 85th, seemingly sealing victory.
But Brentford refused to give in. In the 93rd minute, Carvalho pounced from six metres after Schade’s long throw-in caused chaos in the box, sparking wild celebrations at the Gtech Community Stadium.
“Unbelievable. Everyone likes a last-minute goal. I’m just grateful I got it today,” said Carvalho. “Obviously it wasn’t a win but it felt like a win.”
The result leaves Chelsea frustrated while Brentford take pride in halting their rivals’ charge to the top.
