Brazil’s rising star Endrick seals victory against England at Wembley

LONDON: In a thrilling encounter at Wembley Stadium, Brazil secured a 1-0 victory over hosts England, with seventeen-year-old sensation Endrick stealing the spotlight with his debut international goal. Under the guidance of newly appointed coach Dorival Junior, Brazil displayed resilience and flair, clinching the win in the dying moments of the match.

Endrick, a prodigious talent set to join Real Madrid from Palmeiras, etched his name into the record books as the youngest male player to score an international goal at Wembley, at a mere 17 years and 246 days old. His decisive strike in the 80th minute, tapping into an empty net after England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford parried a shot from Vinicius Jr., sealed Brazil’s triumph.

On the other hand, England, led by coach Gareth Southgate, struggled to find their rhythm in the absence of captain Harry Kane and other regular starters. Despite opting for an attacking lineup in preparation for Euro 2024, England failed to capitalize on their chances, with Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins unable to make a significant impact.

The South Americans, fielding five debutants in their starting lineup, demonstrated resilience in defense, thwarting England’s attempts to break through. Goalkeeper Bento, making his first appearance for Brazil, remained largely untested, thanks to Brazil’s solid defensive performance.

England’s best opportunities fell to Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United, but their efforts were in vain as Brazil held firm to secure the victory.Inquired about Kane’s injury, the England coach mentioned that he wouldn’t be fit for Tuesday’s friendly against Belgium at Wembley. Meanwhile, Brazil is set to play against Spain in Madrid on the same day.(Reuters)
