Bayern’s Kompany optimistic about Kane’s return this year
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany expressed optimism on Monday that injured star striker Harry Kane could return to action before the end of the year. Kane, who sustained a hamstring tear during Saturday’s 1-1 Bundesliga draw against Borussia Dortmund, is set to miss several matches, according to Kompany.
“There’s a chance he’ll play again this year,” Kompany told reporters ahead of Bayern’s German Cup last-16 clash against holders Bayer Leverkusen.
The Bundesliga leaders face five matches before the year-end break, including a crucial Champions League fixture against Shakhtar Donetsk. Kane, who has been instrumental for Bayern this season with 20 goals in all competitions, leaves a significant void in attack.
“You can’t replace him one-to-one. He’s a top player. But we’ll solve things differently. There will be no lack of talent tomorrow,” Kompany said, highlighting potential options such as Thomas Müller, Mathys Tel, Serge Gnabry, Michael Olise, and Leroy Sané.
Kompany also confirmed midfielder João Palhinha’s return to training after recovering from a muscle injury, while Serge Gnabry remains doubtful for Tuesday’s match due to ongoing knee issues.
Bayern’s depth will be tested as they aim to maintain their momentum in both domestic and European competitions without their talismanic forward.
